Ultrasound (Sonography)

Ultrasound imaging obtains images from inside of the body through the use of high-frequency sound waves. Reflected sound waves echoes are recorded and displayed as a real-time visual image. Ultrasound is safe and painless and involves no radiation. Ultrasound imaging is non-invasive and can help doctors diagnose and treat medical conditions. Frequently associated with taking images during pregnancy, ultrasound is useful for many other symptoms, including pain, swelling and infection. Ultrasound can examine internal organs, including:

  • Heart
  • Blood vessels
  • Liver
  • Gallbladder
  • Spleen
  • Pancreas
  • Kidneys
  • Bladder
  • Uterus
  • Eyes
  • Thyroid
  • Testicles
  • Brain in infants

Ultrasound is useful in diagnosing abnormalities of these organs, and of other body structures and blood vessels. Ultrasound can also be used to:

  • Guide needle biopsies
  • Do breast imaging to screen for breast cancer
  • Guide breast biopsies
  • Diagnose heart conditions (echocardiogram)
  • Evaluate blockages and blood clots
  • See tumors and malformations
  • Evaluate blood flow to organs
  • Find infection

In addition to traditional ultrasound services, Servant Medical Imaging also provides 4D ultrasound. Elective 4D ultrasound is a cosmetic procedure that allows parents to view their baby before it is born. This service is offered at our Stillwater, Owasso, Norman and Broken Arrow locations.
