Arthrograpy is frequently ordered to help your physician determine the cause of unexplained joint pain. The procedure involves multiple X-rays of a joint using a fluoroscope.

  • After the joint area is numbed, a contrast medium is injected into the joint space to highlight the structures of the joint.
  • Arthrography helps identify problems with the ligaments, cartilage, tendons or the joint capsule of the hip, shoulder, knee, ankle, wrist or other joints.
